Clothing Attire Evening Guide
What's considered appropriate attire for evening?
You may have heard the terms white tie, black tie, black tie optional, etc., but what does clothing attire
evening really mean?
Cocktail Attire means dressy knee length dresses or a festive top and evening pants for her, a
suit for him.
Black Tie means a tuxedo with a black tie for him, a long evening gown for her.
Black Tie Optional means that both the tuxedo for him and the evening gown for her are
optional, but prefered. If you don't go full black tie, opt for cocktail
attire instead.
White Tie means ultra-formal and requires a tuxedo with white tie for him and formal evening
gown for her. These are typically reserved for very dressy formal affairs like State dinners, major awards,
or very formal evening weddings.
While most people don't dress up as much in evening attire as they once did, it's nice
to "pull out all the stops" and do so occasionally. Hair, makeup, dress, bag, shoes - attire for evening is
special and requires all the finishing touches that are hallmarks of the occasion. Don't settle for anything
less.
